Mary Ann Thompson

July 11, 1940 — January 22, 2024

Mary Ann Thompson, age 83, passed away after a brief illness on January 22, 2024. She was born on July 11, 1940 in Charleston, WV. She was a Jill of all trades and worked a variety of jobs throughout her life: school bus driver, product packaging, restaurants, and as a personal care giver, but her greatest job of all was as a mother to her three daughters. Mary enjoyed gardening, she could make any plant grow. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Mary was the very best at whipping up a delicious BLT, minus the T, fried chicken, or fried green tomatoes. She was the queen of making due.

With pockets full of mints for her grandchildren and a spare $20 for a neighbor in need she had a heart of gold.

Mary was married twice to John David Thompson. They were divorced and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Priscilla E. Flinner and her stepfather, Carl Flinner.

She was the much loved mother of Dianna Neal (Bennie), Joann Giddinge (Erlon), and Dawn Woodward. Cherished grandmother of Lloyd Giddinge, Tiffany Neal-Butts (Ronnie), Bennie Neal Jr, Brittany Agnew (Brandon), Joseph Neal (Asja), Georgia Woodward, and Grayson Woodward. Great grandmother of Camille Butts, Noah Butts, Harper Agnew, Chase Agnew, Maurice Neal, and Major Neal.

Dear sister of Roy Naylor and David Flinner (Debbie). Remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make donations to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mary’s wish was to be cremated and for her remains to be taken home to Charleston, WV. A small service will be held there in July 2024.
